Golf in Whistler
Besides being famous for its worldclass skiing, Whistler is known as one of the top golfing destinations in North America. Situated among the impressive, snowcapped mountains of British Columbia, the prime attraction of this location is the incredible scenery. The golf courses are built within lush forests, where wildlife (e.g. deer and black bears) roams free. For this reason, top designers like Robert Trent Jones Jr., Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer chose to build courses here, that have come to be regarded as some of the best golf courses in the world.
Where to play
This destination offers a total of five great courses, of which three are located in Whistler itself: Nicklaus North (by Jack Nicklaus), the Whistler Golf Club (by Arnold Palmer) and Chateau Whistler (by Robert Trent Jones Jr.). All these courses are must-play venues. Two other courses are found in Pemberton, half an hour north of Whistler Village. The Big Sky Golf and Country Club is the most prestigious course there, known as one of the best courses in the country and definitely worth the drive. The Meadows at Pemberton is another welcome addition to Whistler's excellent variety.
Where to stay
If you look for a luxurious golf resort with direct access to an 18-hole course, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler is an excellent option. More affordable options are the Aava Hotel (conveniently located next to the Whistler Golf Club) or the Greenwood Country Inn in Pemberton.
